Sophia Elena Stefanopoulos is a professional dancer, choreographer, director, and producer based in New York. She is a first-generation American, with proud Greek roots. Sophia is a multidisciplinary movement-based artist with a background of Balanchine ballet and Countertechnique. She has skills in directing and producing her own production, creating contemporary choreography, creating neoclassical ballet choreography, modeling, costume design and sewing, and stage management. 
 
On Saturday, November 30th, 2024, Stefanopoulos made her directorial debut for C(HORIO), the female choreographic showcase. In addition to producing, she also choreographed and danced in a duet for the production. She gathered a cohort of 8 choreographers to present new and restaged works for the show. In 2025, Sophia graduated Hunter College with her Bachelors in Arts Degree as a Dance Major and Studio Art Minor. During her studies, she wrote a thesis in pedagogy of dance and did focus of film photography. In the winter of 2024 and summer of 2023, Sophia attended the Countertechnique intensives named "Winter Warming" and "One Body One Career". In the spring of 2023, she choreographed, designed the costumes, and curated the props for her debuting quartet "turn tables!" at Hunter College's Peggy Blackbox theater. Sophia also worked with Hunter College MFA Austin Marquez on a house hip-hop piece that was showcased in two dance festivals in New York City. In 2022, she performed two works at the Gibney 280 Theater created by Countertechnique teacher and artist Francesca Dominguez. The first piece was Francesca's MFA Thesis project titled “GALVANIZING STEEL: that which supports us” and the second piece was part of the Doug Varone DEVICES showcase titled “NESTING”. Additionally, in the summer of 2022, Sophia released two self-produced dance films entitled “Finish Line” and “BAD GUY”, along with materials of her choreographic process. Her Instagram and Youtube channel have been platforms to share her choreographic materials.
 
Previously, with the Grand Rapids Ballet company, Sophia performed Adam Hougland’s “Cold Virtues” and debuted her piece "CHROMA” for their Jumpstart Choreographic Showcase. As a trainee with the Joffrey Ballet Chicago, she performed Lar Lubovitch’s “Concerto 622”, Marissa Osato’s “Give the People What They Want”, and Edgar Zendejas’ “Lineas”. Sophia has also spent summers with Carolina Ballet in Raleigh, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in New York City, and the Hubbard Street Dance Theater during the contemporary choreographic intensive at USC Kaufman in Los Angeles. Whilst attending the Professional Children's School during her highschool years, Sophia trained at Rose Caiola’s Manhattan Youth Ballet School on the upper west side of Manhattan with Francis J. Roach, Deborah Wingert, Daniel Ulbricht, and Erin Fogarty. ​
